A place of worship, remembrance, and heritage
The Lodge is both a heritage site and a place with sacred meaning. Please enter with a quiet mindset, speak softly, and allow others space for reflection. Keep phone calls to a minimum and set devices to silent.
Modest dress
Visitors are expected to dress modestly, in a way appropriate for an Islamic and historical setting.
- Prefer clothing that covers shoulders, chest, and knees.
- Avoid overly revealing, transparent, or very tight clothing.
- Comfortable, respectful attire is always appreciated.
If you are visiting during a programme or prayer time, modest dress becomes even more important.
Calm and respectful conduct
To preserve the Lodge’s atmosphere:
- Maintain a low voice; avoid loud laughter, running, or disruptive behavior.
- Refrain from eating or drinking in sacred or visitation areas unless permitted.
- Follow on-site guidance and any posted signage.
Moving through the Lodge
Many parts of the site are historic and delicate.
- Walk slowly; be mindful of thresholds, steps, and uneven stone surfaces.
- Do not lean on fragile features, walls, gravestones, or railings.
- Keep pathways clear and avoid blocking entrances or narrow passages.
Respect at tombs and the hazire (cemetery)
The cemetery and tomb areas are places of remembrance.
- Do not step on graves or sit on gravestones.
- Avoid touching, rubbing, or tracing inscriptions.
- If you pause for reflection, please keep it quiet and brief if others are waiting.
- Any act of remembrance should be performed in a respectful and non-disruptive manner.
Photography and filming
Photography is allowed, but please do so with discretion.
- Avoid flash in enclosed or sacred areas.
- Do not photograph people—especially in prayer or reflection—without permission.
- Professional shoots, tripods, or large equipment may require prior approval.
Families and children
Children are welcome when accompanied by an adult. We kindly ask families to help maintain the calm atmosphere—especially near tombs and sacred spaces.
Groups and guided visits
If you are visiting as a group, please move in small clusters when possible and allow other visitors to pass. For larger groups, contacting us in advance helps us welcome you more smoothly.
Cleanliness and preservation
This is a protected historic site. Please help preserve it:
- Do not litter; use bins where available.
- Do not write on, scratch, or attach anything to walls, doors, or stones.
- Do not remove natural or architectural elements from the site.
When in doubt
If you are unsure about any rule or area, please ask the on-site staff. Our aim is to welcome everyone with clarity and courtesy while protecting the sacred and historic character of the Lodge.
